Abstract

Marriage is a legal and social institution that unites two individuals to build a family and share responsibilities. However, marriage does not exist in a vacuum; it is deeply influenced by the surrounding social and cultural structures. One such structure is patriarchy, which often manifests as male dominance over women, legitimized through social norms and religious interpretations. This dominance can lead to unequal power dynamics within the household, where the husband assumes control. While marriage ideally offers emotional companionship and mutual support, in practice, it may also become a space of conflict and imbalance. Understanding these dynamics is essential in efforts to promote legal protection and eliminate domestic violence, especially in communities where patriarchal values are still strongly embedded.
